vanity-url

If you manage your company's Facebook account and you would like to have a user-friendly link to promote to potential online fans, you can create a vanity URL which will become your unique identifier.

Instead of http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/pages/105641026136901?ref=ts you can promote your facebook business page as http://www.facebook.com/your-business-name.

Items needed are below.

  • You need to be an administrator of the page in question.
  • You may also need a verified account (which you need a mobile to do).

Step 1. Decide on the name to use

You need to decide on the name you would like to use, because once set, you can never edit it. Think about something that will be suitable in the next 3-5 years, which will be easy to read and recall for your audience.

The following restrictions are in place:

  • Select a username that is as close as possible to your public figure or registered business name.
  • You will need at least 25 fans on your Facebook page before you can create a vanity URL
  • You can not transfer your username to someone else.
  • Usernames can only contain alphanumeric characters (A-Z, 0-9) or a period (".").
  • You can only have one username per page.
  • Some generic words are not available. i.e. www.facebook.com/garden
  • Your username must adhere to Facebook's Statement of Rights and Responsibilities.

If your trademarked name has already been taken, you can let Facebook know of this intellectual property infringement.

Step 2. Change the settings

Visit http://www.facebook.com/username

  1. Select the page that you manage from the dropdown.
  2. Type in the username you have chosen.
  3. Save.

Step 3. Test

Did it work? Great! If you had any problems with the specifics of your account, consult the Facebook Help Center for detailed support.
